Yay!! can't wait for the flight to HK! It was planned as my "ORD trip"
The flight was early in the morning at around 6am thou, so we need to reach the airport around 4am to check in.
But luckily my friend dad was kind enough to wake up so early to drive us to the airport to save us the taxi fare.
Check-ed in on time and we had our breakfast at wang cafe.
Board the plane and slept all the way.
Touch down safely in Hong Kong at around 10am.
First thing when we touch down is that we pre-bought all our attractions tickets over at CTS(China Travel Service) as by doing this saves us some money and the queue time that is needed compare to buying at the main attraction counter itself.
Disneyland ticket price is sold at HKD415 at CTS compare to HKD450 at disneyland itself saving both of us 70HKD.
The pricing for this ngong ping 360 is the same. This only saves us some time as there was queue over at the main attraction counter itself on that day.
We bought to and fro turbojet tickets to macau. HK to MACAU(WEEKDAY Day time) was at HKD159 compare to buying onsite at HKD164.
And from MACAU to HK(WEEKDAY Night time) was at HKD184 compare to buying onsite at HKD189.
This saves both of us a total of 20HKD and also the queuing time if we were to get onsite as well.
Ocean park ticket (one lunch meal inclusive) was at 346HKD per person compare to 320HKD onsite but without meal inclusive. One meal there was around 85-100HKD thou so i would say that its still worth it.
But then again if I were to make a choice again I would just buy the ticket there without the meal package over at CTS counter as the meal coupon issue to us only had a limit to 2 restaurant and was very very packed.
We wanted to take a cab to our hotel but we were afraid that there might be road closure due to the "demonstration" by the locals over there. Ended up, as we were lazy and we were also afraid of the taxi meter exploding due to "unforseen jam" in HK, we took a bus by a company called Vigor. What this company does is to provide shuttle to various hotel in HK.
The ticket price was 220HKD per pax for a 2 way shuttle from our hotel.
The hotel we stayed at is called Dorsett Mongkok, booked it in advance before our trip on agoda.
Overall hotel experience was 4.5/5 for me. Picture show on agoda was similar to what we get. It was around a 10-15 mins walk to the MTR(Olympic and Mongkok). This hotel actually provide each room with a mobile phone called "handy"(http://handy.travel/hk/en/hospitality) for free for us to use on our stay there. Free IDD calls to Singapore and a few other countries and also unlimited data usage during the stay there, a very big plus point i would say.
We reach our hotel at around 1pm and quickly unpack and went for TIM HO WAN(Olympic outlet - 9-11 fuk wing street, olympic city shopping mall) as we were freaking famished at that time.
It took quite a while for us to find as it is actually located outside of Olympic mall.
To get there quickly and accurately, just ask the locals there for directions.
PS no pic and price of the food, but the dish we ordered were its famous "baked bun with bbq pork" in fact it was really so good that we had 2 set of it.
Never tried the one in Singapore myself, but according to my friend, he said that the one in HK taste slightly better as HK bbq filling was more "saucy" compared to the one in Singapore.
We also ordered its "steam chicken feet with baked bean sauce", "siew mai", "steam fresh shrimp dumpling", "vermicelli roll stuff with shrimp filling."
Cant really remember the price clearly but it was near 100HKD for 2 inclusive of a compulsory tea charge at 3HKD per pax.
After lunch we walked around the mall for awhile and then we get our data card. You guys might be wondering why we never use the "handy" phone. The reason is my friend was quite skeptical about the free phone, but if I was with my girlfriend, we would definitely use the free phone.
We bought this SIM card(PCCW-HKT) for 118HKD, 5GB worth of 3G/4G data with HK48 worth of calling values and also it can be use in macau. It can be found in 7-11 and also some of those small convenient shops.
The full price plan can be found here: https://www.pccw-hkt.com/en/Prepaid-Discover-HK-Tourist-SIM-Card/
I would suggest tourist to get the HKD96 price plan if you are not planning to go to macau.
We had our dinner at Tiffany Restaurant(148 prince edward road west, prince edward) which is famous for their steak.
Soup-soup was not bad, there was alot of meat chunks inside as well.
Nothing special about the bun.
Steak quality was around the same as jack place, the only difference is that the serving of the steak here is too big, left 1/5 of it unfinished!
First time eating foie gras, and I would say I was madly in love with this dish after my first experience. Don't know how foie gras actually taste like for me to make a comparison but i can say that the foie gras by tiffany was heavenly.
As for their dessert, it was not to my liking.
The overall price for 2 is around 450HKD.
Based on my memory, the foie gras was around 90HKD.
This come down to HKD180 for one set of steak meal.
Not cheap but definitely worth it. I would suggest 2 person to share the steak set meal as the steak is very big. The set meal includes: one BIG steak, one soup of the day, one drink(tea or coffee), one dessert.
It was a good and tiring first day in HK.
Its time for me to sleep now and will continue the other days in HK as soon as I have the free time to do so.
Meanwhile... STAY tune! :)
